Edition 2018.1 - Selected Artists
Patrícia de Souza Santos
Born in 1961 in Rio de Janeiro, Patricia received this name in honor to Patrice Lumumba, the ex- president of Congo, assassinated in the year of her birth. This is why she signs « Patrice » in her artworks.
She manifested her vocation towards the arts since very young, initially in the musical area, since her parents were musicians.
At the age of ten, Patrícia began her musical studies with flute, later she developed an interest in acoustic and piano, in the same period she used to create comic books characters.
Always involved with artistic expressions, she participated in plays and later formed her own theater group, directing and writing plays for children.
At age nineteen, she joined the Music Therapy and Art Education course at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music in Rio de Janeiro, where she fell in love with the lyric singing, and then participated in several works in different choirs.
In 1996 she strengthened her studies in the visual arts encouraged by the plastic artist Paulo Fernando Nunan. She created many re-interpretations and later attended the Ateliart school and gallery, guided by the artist Cida Mansur. She then started painting, on a more regular basis, landscapes, portraying beaches of Rio de Janeiro as: Marambaia, Grumari and Búzios.
She currently teaches artistic education at the Public Schools of Rio de Janeiro and attends the Parque Lage School of Visual Arts where her inspiration and coexistence with artists renew her strength and creativity.
